was founded as Lichfield Archaeological and Historical Society in 1957, and produced its first volume of transactions in 1959-60. After two name changes, the society assumed its present style, Staffordshire Archaeological and Historical Society in 1993-94.


All of the society’s transactions’ volumes to 2013 are downloadable here. The society continues to meet and to publish.

The society had a special interest in the Roman settlement at Wall, Staffordshire, Roman Letocetum. Correspondence, including letters, antiquarian observations and visits to the site from the early eighteenth century onwards, and notes and papers, collected by the society’s researchers about the more general context of the research, can be seen here.    Access is unrestricted
